Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development held high-level talks with senior officials from the World Bank Group to review cooperation on supporting the country’s economic reform program and strengthening macroeconomic resilience amid regional tensions.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, brought together the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, the Foreign Minister, and Egypt’s ambassador to the United States.
Discussions focused on the trajectory of Egypt’s economic reform agenda and the impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions on regional economies. Both sides reviewed fiscal and monetary policy measures, as well as precautionary steps aimed at enhancing economic stability and sustaining investor confidence.
Officials also examined multiple scenarios for dealing with the regional crisis, including potential outcomes if tensions ease or persist, and the implications for economic activity and foreign direct investment flows.
The Planning Minister stressed that partnership with the World Bank remains central to supporting Egypt’s development path, highlighting efforts to expand private sector participation in infrastructure projects through innovative financing tools and credit guarantees designed to reduce investment risk.
He also emphasized the importance of the “productive clusters” initiative, which aims to localise industries and create sustainable employment opportunities in rural areas under the presidential “Decent Life” program, shifting from direct support models toward economic empowerment.
The minister further outlined government efforts to promote innovation and entrepreneurship by developing an integrated ecosystem to support startups and improve access to financing and markets, in line with Egypt’s transition toward a knowledge-based digital economy.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming the importance of continued technical coordination and cooperation to support Egypt’s Vision 2030 and advance inclusive and sustainable development.
